Theme Weddings

by admin_skysight | August 11, 2011

In the last month, SkySight has had the pleasure of working three distinctly themed weddings. The themes varied in their focus and extensiveness, but all were definitely a step apart from a typical wedding – sans theme.

The first in our series of themed weddings was Susan and Tom’s wedding on July 3. This out-of-town couple lives full-time in Boulder, CO, but were married in Pittsburgh’s south side Morning Glory Inn during a quite and relaxed Sunday ceremony.

The bride’s tea-length gown, hair style and bold red lip were all very reminiscent of the 1950s, especially coupled with the interior’s flowered wallpaper.

The Morning Glory is one of Autumn’s favorite wedding locations to shoot, because of its interesting architecture (both inside and out) and outdoor courtyard.

Equally relaxed (maybe even more so!) was the second themed wedding: Craig and Jenny’s outdoor ceremony at Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve on July 27.

The couple were married in a very brief but personal ceremony with only a small group of family and close friends. They followed their ceremony with photos at the Reserve, putting to use several props that are typically only used at the SkySight studio – the yellow chair, picnic basket, costume jewelery – and combining them with their own props.

The result: A “Victorian picnic” themed collection of photos featuring the bride, groom and their baby Sophia!

And most recently, we attended the wedding of Emily and Eddie. The bride and groom are both performing arts professionals and decided to reflect their lifelong passion for the arts in their movie-themed wedding. The couple held a ceremony at the Carnegie Library Music Hall of Homestead (the first wedding ever at this venue!) and a reception following at Riverside Landing in Oakmont.

In terms of theme, this couple left no stone unturned! From dramatically beautiful flowers (by Bloomin’ Genius of Greensburg), to movie-quote place settings and movie-worthy bridal party announcements, this couple definitely perfected the art of a theme wedding! The bride and bridal party also channeled the classic age of cinema in a birdcage veil and black gowns with red-sequined (hand-beaded!) shoes.
